Ten years of Marriage

Our family always gets a picture with this statue each time we go to Disneyland.

 I am rather excited to get a "Goofy" picture with Rob in celebration of 10 wonderful years together!

On Thursday Rob and I will celebrate our ten year anniversary. I had originally planned to give him a printed copy of Our Love Story as an anniversary gift--a remembrance of how God brought us together. But, as those who follow my blog can tell, I have yet to get anywhere close to finishing the story, despite my best intentions.

Truthfully, my emotions and hormones have been really up and down over the last several months, dealing with the joy of finding out we were expecting, the month of unknowns as we suspected that something was wrong with the baby, and ultimately the emotional and physical pain of experiencing a miscarriage.

Through it all, I haven't had the motivation to write such a happy, joyful story. My heart just hasn't been in it. I still plan to finish it at some point though. And today, as Rob and I are getting ready to go on a four day trip to Disneyland together, I can't help but think about how the days before our wedding unfolded. So here, for you, I have a small love story teaser. I have to admit, it was nice to take a few minutes to dwell on some of those exciting days!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ten years ago tomorrow I woke up anxious to get my last final out of the way. I had been taking 18 credits at college that semester, and I had a few other things on my mind to say the least. In fact, the final was the last thing on my mind, but alas, I had to take it.
The final was at 8:00 am and I hurried through the test as quickly as I could. There was still so much left to do. I had a church to decorate, a rehearsal to attend, a wedding to prepare, and a honeymoon to pack for (to a destination which was still unknown to me). I still had some things that need packed up and delivered to Rob's barn. Or, um, my new place. I wasn't sure I'd ever get used to calling it "ours".
I couldn't help but get distracted by the shiny diamond adorning my left ring finger. It was hard to believe that in just one more day that ring would also have a shiny band of diamonds around it, signifying that I was Rob's wife. Not his friend, or his "special friend", or his girlfriend, or even his fiance. But his wife!
It was a day that I felt like I had waited so long for on the one hand. On the other hand, it had felt like this day had come so quickly. Just a year prior I had no idea this man existed. And now, I was about to stand next to him and vow to love him for the rest of my life in front of all of our friends and family.
But first I had to finish that silly final. As soon as I completed it I rushed out the door and headed down to The Cottage (a house on campus that I was living in) to grab my tub of stuff to decorate with. I headed to the church with a friend (I think, but I don't recall who it was) and met my soon to be mother-in-law to start getting some stuff done. So much to do, so little time!
I am so excited about getting some special time away, at our very favorite place, just my husband and me! It's been a great 10 years and I have so much to be thankful for. I had no idea when I got married that marriage would be so much fun. I love having my best friend by my side day in and day out. I love doing life and ministry with him. And, I have a distinct feeling, that I'm going to love having him all to myself for the next four days!
But for now, I feel a little bit like I felt that day before my wedding. I have plans to make, bags to pack, a house to clean, kids to shuffle around and an anniversary celebration to prepare for. So much to do, so little time!
The friend you headed to the church with was me!
