We'd been given a tip by a local to avoid the forever-long waits and expensive ferry trips out to Ellis Island and The Statue of Liberty. Instead, take the Staten Island Ferry (which is free) out to Staten Island and back and you will get a beautiful view of the statue while you're sailing.
We got a beautiful view of Lower Manhattan when were on our way back.
